1. “Certificate” means a credential, other than a degree, the receipt of which indicates satisfactory completion of training in a program of study offered by Dyersburg State Community College or the Tennessee Technology Center at Newbern; 2. “Clock hours” means the actual hours spent in a classroom or lab setting; 3 “College-level coursework” means coursework at the freshman (100 or 1000) level or the sophomore (200 or 2000) level; 4. “Continuous enrollment” at Dyersburg State Community College means a student is enrolled in the fall and spring semesters of a single academic year. “Continuous enrollment” at the Tennessee Technology Center at Newbern” means that the student is enrolled fall, spring and summer trimesters of a single academic year. 5. “Cost of attendance” means the total cost of attendance for a specified period of time at a post-secondary institution as defined by the U.S. Department of Education; 6. “Developmental coursework” means coursework lower than the freshman level and for which the course number is less than 100 or 1000; 7. “FAFSA” means the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, a federal needs analysis used to determine financial need; 8. “Full-time student” means a student attending Dyersburg State Community College and enrolled for at least (12) semester hours during each semester of attendance; and a student attending Tennessee Technology Center at Newbern is enrolled for 30 clock hours per week; 9. “GED” means a general educational development credential awarded by a state-approved institution or organization; 10. “Grade point average” means the numbered grade average calculated using a 4.0 scale; 11. “Home school student” means a student who completed high school in a Tennessee home school program meeting the requirements of § 49-6-3050. For two (2) years immediately preceding completion of high school as a home school student, such student shall have been a student in a home school associated with a church-related school as defined by § 49-50-801 and registered with the Tennessee local school district which the student would otherwise attend as required by § 49-6-3050(a)(2)(C)(i) or an independent home school student whose parent or guardian has given notice to the local director of a Tennessee school district under § 49-6-3050(b) (1) of intent to conduct a home school; 12. “Full Honorable discharge” means a military discharge as defined on the DD214; 13. “Incarcerated” means students who are in a federal, state, or local penal institution. A student is not considered incarcerated if he/she is in a halfway house or home detention or is sentenced to serve only on weekends; 14. “ISIR” is the Institutional Student Information Record, the electronic report received by institutions as the result of a student filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid; 15. “Priority deadline” means a date on which students who meet all eligibility requirements will be given priority for available funds; 16. “Qualified GED graduate” means a student who has received a passing score on the GED in Tennessee and was scheduled to graduate with the most recent graduating high school class; 17. “Qualified Student” means a student who has met all of the criteria for receipt of scholarship funds; 18. “Regular diploma” means a diploma designation indicating successful completion of academic courses and a passing score on the Gateway examinations; 19. “Remedial coursework” means coursework lower than the developmental level and for which the course number is less than 0800; 20. “Semester” means fall, spring, or summer semester at Dyersburg State Community College; 21. “Tennessee financial aid program” means a program administered by an agency of the State of Tennessee 22. “Term” refers to a period of instruction; e.g., fall, spring, summer; “term” and “semester” are used interchangeably; 23. “Third-party scholarships” refers to scholarships awarded by agencies other than federal, state, and local public agencies; 24. “Title IV” means Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, 20 U.S.C. § 1070, et seq; 25. “Trimester: means one of three terms into which an academic year is divided spring, summer, fall. |
